Poem Theme?

What is the theme to this poem? Why? Explain.

The most helpful answer gets best.

The Plaid Dress

by Edna St. Vincent Millay

Strong sun, that bleach

The curtains of my room, can you not render

Colourless this dress I wear?閳?br> This violent plaid

Of purple angers and red shames; the yellow stripe

Of thin but valid treacheries; the flashy green of kind deeds done

Through indolence high judgments given here in haste;

The recurring checker of the serious breach of taste?

No more uncoloured than unmade,

I fear, can be this garment that I may not doff;

Confession does not strip it off,

To send me homeward eased and bare;

All through the formal, unoffending evening, under the clean

Bright hair,

Lining the subtle gown. . .it is not seen,

But it is there.

Poem Theme?

the theme is self or redemption. The persona wants to be a new person, like a white clothes, so that all the colors (either anger, shame, treacheries and even good deeds disappear) But he knows that's not possible(no nore uncolored than unmade) and confessing for his crimes does not make him feel better, that's why he wants to be a new person.

Poem Theme?

i don't know what the theme would be,but is sounds like the person wishes their sins or flaws could be wiped away(bleached)like the curtains in their window have been by the sun.

Poem Theme?

the theme is to make oneself clean and pure,getting rid of the burdens one has due to the sins or mistake he has done .every poem has a theme , so has this one, to teach us .

EXPLAINATION:

The person is asking the sun to make her dress colorless, as it bleaches the curtains. she is regarding the diffrnt colors in the dress as her sins eg:

purple/anger, red /shame ,yellow thin stripes as small sins ,but valid means that sins r sins.and green of the good she has done which didn't hurt ,but those judgements were made without thinking.the check pattern feels to her sins comitted again and again, the breach of taste means that she has acted against her nature.

then she says that she can have the color less [dress=life] but not the unmade ie, which is not proper.she fears even her confession cannot clear the dress[life full of sins ] ,so that she can go home ralaxed and without sins[bare],so she can be in the company of good ,descent people,which doesn't hurts her,because she is clean of any burdens[on her head]

then she says that then she will attend the evening wearing the light gown[flawless ,with no weight of the sins].

she says...............

i know it will be colorless,so it may not attract

people,or may not be seen,

but i am sure it will be there,

coz' then i will have a life , an existence,

which is worth ,and no one can deny it .
